American Nazis
The History of Nazism in the United States
By Sophia Bosi
When learning about WWII and Nazis, the material is frequently limited to what occurred in Germany and the invaded territories. Yet, the story of Nazism and antisemitic beliefs extends vastly beyond these boarders. The United States had a very personal experience with Nazis and Nazism.
This exhibition walks through the history of Nazism in the United States in 1930s and reveals the blended outcome of American Democracy and Nazi ideology. Nazi Party ideals and fascist indoctrination spread quickly across the nation through US-based Nazi organizations, government official Nazi alliances, and propaganda. This antisemitic and pro-Nazi ideology is on the rise in present day United States. There has been an increase in antisemitic rhetoric, Jewish hate crimes, and pro-Nazi dog whistles in current politics.
